In general, before you travel, it makes sense to list the places you want to visit. But the obsession with it comes at a cost.
When I travel, I prefer to run into a mix of intense Safari randomness and ultimate German order. This way, the traveller has – more than usual – reasons to learn surprising stuff, meet surprising people, enjoy surprising meals and walk surprising streets that are personal and not replicable. But when things aren’t going so well — think, losing your luggage — I like to follow rules which at those very moments sound like music.
And that’s why I’m lucky to have travelled around Korça. She is generous enough to offer hospitality, easy navigation, nice people, striking nature and distinct food at a fraction of the cost. You will, as well, have the freedom to create your own memories. As always, there’s one thing we can’t change — your enthusiasm to enjoy the city. Think for a second. What would you do if you had a terrible experience with the parking at the restaurant, the rain didn’t stop and you still haven’t made photos to stick on your Instagram profile? On the other hand, you enjoyed a great meal and the waiters were nice to you. Was it worth it? Alain De Botton kindly suggests to us that: “Feeling lost, crazy and desperate belongs to a good life as much as optimism, certainty and reason”.
So, the need to optimize our journey may be unnecessary after all. Why should we try to get rid of friction even if that is uncomfortable 🙂 ? Maybe friction is the sweetest part of the journey.
Therefore, I believe that we don’t have to follow rules but we benefit by avoiding setting rules as well.
